How to Watch the Asian Games 2026 in the USA (Free): A Family Guide

Muslim Family

The Olympics your grandparents talk about is happening right now, while America sleeps, and you can watch it for free.

If you grew up in a desi household, you probably remember an uncle who could name every Asian Games hockey final since the seventies. If you are raising kids in Ohio or New Jersey or Texas, you have probably also noticed that the games do not exist on American TV. So when we found out how to watch the Asian Games 2026 in the USA for free, we did what we always do: we planned snacks first, then figured out the schedule.

This guide is the short version of what we learned. Where to watch, which nights are worth staying up for, and how to make two weeks of overnight sport into something the kids will remember, not just something Abbu watched alone on his phone at 2 a.m.

In a hurry? The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games run September 19 to October 4. Willow Sports is streaming about 700 hours of it free on three pop-up channels (Asian Games 1, 2 and 3) on Roku, Prime Video, Sling, Fubo, Samsung TV Plus, Plex and more, roughly 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. ET. Cricket is the headline.

The 60-second explainer for the kids

The 20th Asian Games are being held in Aichi Prefecture and the city of Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. Forty-six delegations are taking part, including an Asian Refugee Team, and they are competing across 43 sports and 469 medal events. That is bigger than a Winter Olympics and not far off a Summer one.

The mascot is called Honohon, based on the golden shachihoko, the tiger-fish ornament you see on the roof of Nagoya Castle. The motto is "Imagine One Asia." Six sports are making their debut this year, and a few of them are exactly the ones your kids will want to watch: freestyle BMX, surfing, mixed martial arts, padel, teqball and virtual taekwondo.

For our families, the delegation sizes tell their own story. Indonesia sent 432 athletes, Malaysia 347, Iran 282, Bangladesh 202, Saudi Arabia 144 and Pakistan 80. India sent 492. If you have a flag from any of those countries somewhere in the house, this is the fortnight to hang it up.

How to watch the Asian Games 2026 in the USA for free

Here is the part that surprised us. Willow Sports, the channel most of our parents already pay for during cricket season, is running three temporary free streaming channels called Asian Games 1, 2 and 3 for the whole event. They are what the industry calls FAST channels, which just means free, ad-supported, and available on almost anything with a screen.

The list of places you can find them includes Roku, Prime Video, Samsung TV Plus, Sling, Fubo, Google TV, Xumo, Plex, DistroTV, FreeCast, YuppTV and FreeSports. Coverage runs roughly 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Eastern, because Nagoya is 13 hours ahead of Columbus. Willow is also the exclusive US home of the men's and women's T20 cricket tournaments, which is the reason a lot of us will be up past midnight this week.

"Competing for your country brings a different level of intensity, and that's what makes the Asian Games so compelling," Willow TV's chief operating officer Todd Myers said when the deal was announced.

The time-zone trick that saves your sleep

We are not going to pretend a 1 a.m. cricket match is a family activity. Here is what actually works in our house. Set the DVR or the app's recording feature on the overnight window, then watch the last few overs or the medal ceremony together at breakfast before school. Kids do not know the result yet, so it still feels live. On a Friday or Saturday night, you can stay up for one match as a treat, with chai for the grown-ups and warm milk for the little ones.

This week's can't-miss moments

A few dates to circle. The women's T20 cricket medal matches are Tuesday, September 22, with the final in the morning and the bronze match in the afternoon, Japan time, which means overnight Monday into Tuesday for us. Pakistan and Bangladesh are in the bronze medal match after Pakistan posted 177 for 4 in the semifinal, with Ayesha Zafar hitting 71 off 40 balls. India and Sri Lanka play for gold. The men's T20 tournament follows, with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Malaysia and Oman all in the field.

Athletics runs September 23 to 29 at Paloma Mizuho Stadium. The men's and women's marathons are Saturday, September 26, and the men's javelin final, the one Pakistani households will be watching for Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, is scheduled for Monday, September 28.

Make it a heritage lesson without making it a lecture

This is the real reason we are writing this. Our kids are American. They will cheer for Team USA at the Olympics and we love that. But the Asian Games are a rare two weeks when the countries on our family tree are the main event, and that is worth a little effort.

Print the flags of the countries in your family and tape them to the fridge. Put a map next to them. Pick one athlete per country to follow, and let each kid pick their own. Learn the first line of one anthem. When a medal ceremony comes on, pause and ask who in the family was born in that country. It takes five minutes and it lands harder than any lesson we have ever tried to give on purpose.

Cheering for two countries is not a divided heart. It is a bigger one.Something we tell our kids every World Cup, and now every Asian Games

Snacks by country

You knew this section was coming. Chai and nimko for a Pakistan match. Chanachur and a plate of cut fruit for Bangladesh. Satay skewers if you are cheering for Indonesia or Malaysia. Dates and Arabic coffee for Saudi nights. If you want the full game-day spread, our World Cup watch party guide and halal cookout guide still hold up, and the halal lunch box ideas post has a few things kids can carry to school the next day.

A gentle word on cheering for two countries

Every few years someone asks our kids which country they are "really" for. We have decided the answer is a shrug and a grin. Our children get the Fourth of July and the Asian Games. They get Thanksgiving and Eid. That is not a conflict to manage. It is a gift to unwrap slowly, one medal ceremony at a time.

One small idea: the mug that comes out for late-night matches in our house is a personalized Arabic name mug, and the kids have decided their names in Arabic are their "team jerseys." We did not plan that. We are keeping it.
